Geological monitoring of Follo Line TBM project in Norway

The Follo Line project is the first TBM excavation using double shield machines in Norway. The compensation format is based upon the NTNU-model and variations in geology are related to the fracturing factor, K, CLI, and quartz content. Double shield TBMs give very limited access to the rock mass, but with compensation directly linked to rock mass fracturing, mapping in the tunnel is important. The tunnel mapping consists of face mapping, continuous probe drillings, high quality televiewing, 3D images of the face, core drillings and chip analysis. To be able to establish the correct strike, dip and spacing for the different fracture sets, a lot of processing work is required for the televiewer images and the 3D photos of the face.
