  Drill and split, a feasible option to careful blasting?

  The northern tunnel contract on the Follo Line project, EPC D&B, is excavating the last part of the Follo line through Ekebergåsen. One of the main challenges on the project is the closeness to the already existing infrastructure and caverns. Several of the tunnels on the project will cross or come very close to this infrastructure, and there are several challenges related to the low overburden and vibrations from blasting. To satisfy the demands to the excavation in the area, drill and split became an alternative to blasting. This article gives and introduction to the experiences from splitting so far on the Follo Line D&B.
