Ground settlement due to tunneling is highly dependent on geotechnical properties of host materials; So it is important to obtain precise and accurate knowledge of the properties. To perform most of laboratory tests, it is necessary to prepare undisturbed samples of soil that is difficult task in coarse-grained soil such as sands or gravels. To determine geotechnical parameters of such soils in-situ test should be done. Likewise, studying on ground settlement due to shallow tunneling through such soils should be done based on geotechnical parameters obtained from in-situ tests. In this research, ground settlement because of the excavation of shallow tunnels in Tehran has been investigated. The tunnels have been drilled into Tehran’s recent alluvia that are composed of finegrained and coarse-grained soils.
