More and more projects are using BIM models. Some projects require 4D (integration of time dependencies) and 5D (integration of time and cost dependencies) or even more. In addition objects shall be allocated with unique ID codes (tags) already in the design phase and object specific information is collected in database systems, which are linked to all documents (reports, drawings, datasheets, manuals,…). The gathered information is automatically transferred to the database of the operator, in parallel with the project completion. Other industries, such as oil and gas, have implemented these instruments since many years. The infrastructure business is somehow behind this development, although the differences in the applications and standards in various countries are significant. This paper is a critical discussion of these methods and defines, based on the Follo Line Project, a certain standard for infrastructure projects for a successful application.
