The design and excavation of the Tunnels along the Road 6 in the North of Israel
Road 6 is one of the largest infrastructure projects undertaken in Israel and is carried out mainly by private sector in form of concessionaire. Three tunnels named Yokneam, Rehasim and Ibtin are actually under construction. Each tunnel is arranged as a system of twin tunnels connected by transverse cross passages. Tunnels are excavated within a series of sedimentary rock mass formations range from hard rocks (limestone, dolomite) to soft rocks (chalk and marls). Yokneam Tunnel runs through a fault zone and is close to existent pipelines (oil and gas). The paper describes the main aspects of the design of these tunnels. Furthermore the main aspects of the construction process will be dealt together with performance data. Activities are supported by a monitoring program to control the response to excavation of tunnels and pipelines. Monitoring data will be presented, analyzed and compared with the design expectations.Recipient :
