Solutions for minimization the soil settlement using EPBM innovations

As is known, the maximum reduction in the earth's surface displacement may be achieved if Slurry Shield applies. In this paper we propose measures to improve the work of the EPB-Shield based on new structural and design solutions. Recommendations were developed for planning replacements of the cutting wheel. When scheduling a replacement of the cutting wheel rock abrasiveness indicator should be considered. It is advisable to use the achieved results on the replacement disc cutters in the construction of tunnels in loams and sands in Moscow. Technological regulations of shield work should contain procedure for caisson work. When recruiting only staff shield seal should be set against the penetration of ground into the workspace. It is necessary to provide the greatest possible depth of the tunnel. Minimization of displacement will be provided the design of shield movement direction mainly by positive tunnel slopes (upwards). The proposed design solutions will significantly reduce the earth's surface displacement over the EPB-shield.
