Abrasive waterjets have been recently used to excavate underground space and tunnels in urban area. Rock excavation with abrasive waterjet-cutting technology has advantages of achieving low excavation vibration and minimizing over-break. The rock excavation performance with abrasive waterjet cutting depends on the jet energy and target rock properties. The rock properties are a key factor in determining the overall excavation cost and time at a certain jet energy. In this study, cutting test data for hard rock were analyzed for rock excavation performance. The analysis results reveal that the cutting performance increases with an increase in the jet energy, and it is affected by rock properties. The results can help estimate the operating time using abrasive waterjet-cutting-assisted excavation methods.
