Nanchang Metro Line 1, China was mainly excavated through argillaceous siltstone in some sections. Soil clogging happened in the early construction stage, and so deep investigation was carried out in another section of the metro line to avoid the soil clogging. Based on mineral-ogy investigation, the content of clay minerals is 40.5% in the argillaceous siltstone (kaoline 27.8%, illite 8.3%, montmorillonite 4.4%). This study proposed a scheme of soil conditioning. Taking foam as the conditioning agent for tunneling in the stratum, the soil conditioning parame-ters was obtained through slump tests, indicating that the slump value of suitable conditioned soil was 17~20cm. Additionally, a fitting function of the slump value against water content and foam injection ratio was presented.
