Design and construction of The San José Hydroelectric Project (Cochabamba, Bolivia)
The San José Hydropower Project (Cochabamba department, Bolivia) owned by ENDE Corporation and managed by the Public Agency CORANI comprises 2 power stations (San José 1 and San José 2) with a total capacity of 55 + 69 MW. The project is now under construction phase and includes 3 supply tunnels and 2 headrace tunnels with a total length of 15.7 km that shall be bored by NATM concept. To speed up construction 7 adits (2.7 km of total length) shall be bored. Additionally 9 shafts (intakes and surge tanks) are included in the design of the plant. With a maximum overburden of 580 m, soft sedimentary rocks with potential squeezing risk shall be bored. Great number of ‘Quebradas’, streams and rivers associated with faulted and fractured ar-eas are being crossed with great problems of water leakage.Recipient :
