Tunnel lining behavior under high hydraulic head in water bearing ground – A numerical investigation

Tunnelling under high hydraulic head in water bearing ground faces a number of technical issues during design and construction phases. This is especially true for subsea tunnelling which are highlighted by high potential for damage, high pore water pressures, and limited pre-construction accessibility (Anagnostou, 2014). As indicated by Anagnostou (2014), the face instability and the possibility of high water inflows may be the high damage potential associated with subsea tunnelling during construction. Another important issue in the design stand point may perhaps be the lining design.
