  First results from the excavation of the Lyon-Turin Maddalena Exploratory Tunnel

  Construction of infrastructure starts well before the actual works begin: detailed studies, investigations, surveys, designs and plans must be carried out and completed beforehand. Field and ground conditions can prove to be different from expected once the works begin. After excavating more than 2000m of the Maddalena Exploratory Tunnel, part of the Cross-Border Section of the New Turin-Lyon railway link, the ground and water effect on progress indicate the true nature of the underground environment. The cross-border section is the first functional phase of the common part and runs from Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne (France) to Susa-Bussoleno (Italy).
