  Cityringen – Inner-city TBM tunneling in mixed face conditions

  Cityringen comprises twin TBM tunnels with a length of approximately 15,5 km connecting 17 new stations and 5 shafts through the old inner city of Copenhagen. The tunnelling in the Southern part of the ring is mainly driven through in Copenhagen limestone, whereas the Northern part of the ring includes mixed face and soft ground conditions. The tunnels are located at a depth of between 10 and 40 meters resulting in high groundwater pressures at tunnel level. Depending on the different ground conditions the individual locations are provided with different concepts for break-in / break-out of the TBM into and out of the stations. The concept include: Water cut-off provided by piles, grout plug, jet grout curtains, and false tunnels.
