A particular grouting application for the stability of a tunnel
During the driving of a tunnel through the North-West Alps a challenging rock formation was encountered. The mother rock mass is a schist rich in sericite and quartzite, with a thin lamination, but the intercalation of a weaker facies at the tunnel face caused an unexpected anisotropic behaviour of the tunnel section. In detail, the section showed an anisotropic deformation path both during the advancement and at rest without any excavation, due to a progressive loss of the bearing capacity below the right foot of the primary support, where the rib leans on the rock thus bearing directly on the thin laminated structure. The consequences were clearly displayed by the provisional lining, showing some kind of distress. It was therefore necessary to apply some corrective measures in order to avoid this unfavourable behaviour.Recipient :
